To become a better singer you have to do more than just singing. Singing is an art and if respected you will see great growth in your ability to sing. Some people learn how to sing while others are born with the gift. Its not easy developing your talent, but most people seam to think that if you know how to carry a tune you don't need to have any training. Having this sort of mindset will not only hurt your vocal but your career as well. I have been singing for many years and have learned that your vocal chords are like a muscle, you have to exercise it. For example you can be the faster sprinter on the track, but if you don't exercise your legs and your body(with the right training) you will in a short time be the last one across the finish line. So lets get started on a few tips.

#1. You must make sure that your body is in good health to accomplish your goal. Exercise daily and not eating junk food will help your body be in smooth transition when it come to your vocals. Eating better will get you healthier and a healthier system will get you to breath and feel better when you sing. Music is a result of what is on the inside not a cause. When your smoking(which takes away the oxygen from your blood cells) and putting illigal drugs into your body(which hurts the cells, brain, and nerves system) your hurting your vocals as well. Trust me on this one. I have seen it time and time again.

#2.Make sure that you take some time out to practice voice training,no need to sing if you have not exercise your vocal chords first. Start out by doing the abc's in notes to warm your vocals and then when your done(a-z) go up a scale and repeat until you hit your highest range. But don't go any further if you start to get out of your natural rang. You don't want to strain your vocal chords. You always want to be natural and smooth, so don't over due it.

#3. Practice you breathing exercises by laying on your back, hold a note (10sec)and go up a scale until(like before)you reach your peak. But make sure that your stomach stay leveled, not fluctuating. You can do this by putting your hand on your stomach to be sure it stay leveled. You want control and balance. Its been said many time to sing from your stomach, but this is not true. Your stomach is where the wind comes from but not the note. This is why so many people run out of gas during a long concert because they are punishing the stomach while not preparing it to work with your vocals. This will help you with control and balance.

#4.Singing is allot like speaking with a note. If you keep this in mind you will really do well with your career. Notice that when you are talking to someone you don't have to work so hard at it. Its allot like singing, when you sing you must get to a place when you don't have to strain your voice. Its a mind over matter thing, because your mind control the body. When you are nervous your mind send signals throughout your body and your vocals will show. Everyone gets a bit nervous every now and then when it come to singing but with a little training you can learn to minimize the effects of nervousness. A good technique is to practice "the lips the teeth the tip of the tongue." Repeat this phrase starting low and work your way up to and comfortable scale. Make sure you say all the word plainly, and make it a habit to practice this exercises.

#5. Make sure to drink a cup of warm water before and after training. It helps the vocal chords to open up and you will sing better. There are a few links below that are vocal training guides that can help your singing career. But you can choose the best one for you.

The ebook below is a great tool for any musician to have if they want to market their music online. Good luck and dont stop your practice at becoming a better singer.

I really like this article because I am a singer, it confirmed some of my own believes and reminded me of some important things I sometimes forget.
