Learning the Art of Songwriting

The art of songwriting is not an difficult art to learn if you have the passion. There are thousands upon thousands of songs on the market these days and it's hard to figure out who all the writers are. It seams that every topic have been covered by a songwriter which has made it even harder for you to find something to write about. Do not despair because there is an art to songwriting and you are about to learn what they are. It's not over until the fat lady sings, have you ever wondered who the fat lady is?(joke). Let's begin.

If you want to write a good song you have to understand the art of songwriting. Songwriting is a creative action and to create something means you have to make it exist out of yourself. You can not write a good song without your heart, because anyone can make a sound or a killer beat but not everyone can write a good song. What you feel at the moment is the key to your creation and it will guide you to write songs with a strong message. When someone writes and complete a song you will see that its a process and not a novel of some kind. You can not separate who you are and what you feel when it come to songwriting, doing so will hurt and not give you what your looking for. It will seam to be a copy cat of someone else'ssongs and not reach its fullest potential. So remember to start with what you feel and don't forget that you are creating songs for the world to hear.

Never give your song a title before its done. A title is not the same as inspiration because being inspired is the motivation to take action of some kind but the title of something is the face of the story of that work. The reason why it's not good to give a title at the beginning of your work is because when you do this you will make boundaries for yourself based on that title and you don't want to do that my friend. Give yourself room to grow and move in that particular song. Write about what you feel not what you see. I know this might be a little strange to read but this is why i give songwriting seminars across the country because there are more and more people learning the true art of writing. When your song is complete you will understand what the title should be.

There are 4 basics sequences to a song. The first is the verses, second is the choirs, then thirdly is the bridge, and forth is the hook which is the climax of the song. Of course you will have an intro to your song but we are only focusing today on the writing of the lyrics. Usually there are 2 verses to a song meaning the first verse and then the second verse. The first verse come after the intro. Your first verse should be calmer or smoother that the second verse because you are climbing up the ladder of the song to a climax. Then after the first verses you will have the choirs. The second verse but with a little more impact than the first verse but don't overdo it. Then after your second verse you will have the second choirs which will take you to the bridge. Your bridge is like a change or a set up for the hook. Don't make it too long because you need to remember that you only have a maximum of 3-4min to get your message across. When you reach your hook be sure to make it creative and fun, because most people try too hard and get too serious when writing the hook part of the song. They are creative throughout the whole process of writing the song and then lose that creativity when they get to the hook. Make it interesting and creative but stay with the message of the song. If you want to market your songs, I recommend a fabulous ebook "Musicians Marketing Guide Made Simple" I think every musician should get this ebook online. Link below.

That's all for now but I hope you have fun writing your materials and feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. I hope this hub help you. I will be writing more later.

Is that it? Most wannabees know that most songs have a structure verse, chorus, bridge and so on.. but you haven't explained the "Art of writing" itself, i.e words grammar, phrases and so on. Also you'll find some songwriters in end up finding a hook to write about, which is the title to the song...

Good hub and voted up. Like Famous, said, some of these are like common sense for most songwriters, but this hub has definite value for new songwriters. Great job and thanks for sharing! Voted up.
